Well, I’d say Thursday 28 November 2013 was the highlight of my year!
Just to give you some background, Theo Paphitis from Dragons’ Den fame holds a competition every Sunday on Twitter called ‘Small Business Sunday’, or #SBS for short.
I’m here to tell you that I won this said Award, and Theo (we’re on first name terms now, obviously) invited me and many of the other winners, from across the UK and Ireland to his #SBSEvent2013 at the ICC in Birmingham.
On arrival, I kind of got ‘papped’ by Theo’s professional photographer, as you can see here on the right! 🙂
It was a fabulous day out for networking with other small businesses, we got our photo taken with Theo (great for PR!), had access to his ‘Panel of Experts’ on topics such as e-commerce, finance, logistics and marketing and of course were treated some amazing inspiration from the big man himself.
Since winning Theo Paphitis’ #SBS Award , I’ve:
- gained a huge Twitter following,
- been in the local newspaper,
- featured on BBC Radio Nottingham, and
- increased exposure for my Pregnancy Fitness DVD “Don’t let your BUMP get in the way!” and Postnatal Fitness DVDs “Now it’s YOUR time!”
It’s been great exposure for my little business www.clairemockridge.com which aside from selling pre/postnatal fitness DVDs also operates pregnancy exercise and postnatal fitness classes for expectant women and new mums in West Bridgford, Nottingham, UK.
If you’re a small business owner yourself, or know someone who is, my suggestion would be to get on Twitter NOW, (you can follow me here and I’ll show you how it’s done if you like) and make sure to send @TheoPaphitis a tweet using the #SBS hastag on Sunday between 5:30-7:00pm. You never know your luck – he may select you/your friend’s business too.
All winners of the #SBS Award have the opportunity of ‘pitching’ their business to a panel of businesses called #SBSAngels, that Theo personally invested in whilst he was on Dragons’ Den.
There’s £50,000 up for grabs if we’re chosen as a successful investment.
Wish me luck!
